Gong Bath with Charlie Merton

Sunday 12th of February

18:00-19:30

£25 for Members and £35 for non Members

Join us for an evening workshop honoring Imbolc, the quickening of Spring, through observing how we transition from the hibernation of winter into this season of rebirth and renewal. The yin practice will embody this transition from water to the wood element, through the energy of the kidney/bladder channel pairing and liver/gallbladder channels. The practice will generate appropriate energy to move any stagnancy and generate possibility. The one-hour Gong Bath will create a soundscape for the body to process deep release and transformation to invite a joyful wonderment of life.

Charlie Merton is an experienced qualified crystal and sound therapist and began teaching Yoga in 2011 following a decade of exploring the practice. Prior to beginning her path as a yoga teacher, Charlie trained as a musician and taught instrumentally for many years. A qualified Music Therapist with an MA in music therapy, she runs regular gong baths across London's top studios, as well as monthly workshops incorporating a combination of integral practices such as chanting, pranayama, asana, and sound baths. Charlie has received extensive training in Kirtan, Yoga Nidra, as well as Yin and Restorative Yoga under the guidance of Norman Blair, Judith Lasater, Sarah Powers, and Bernie Clark.

This workshop is suitable for anyone; please come wearing comfortable clothing and bring eye shades, so that you can deeply relax into the practice.

Yin Yoga & Gong Bath Workshop with Charlie Merton

Sunday 26th of June

19:30-21:00

£25 for Members and £35 for non Members

Join Charlie for this nurturing Sunday Evening practice to honour summer solstice and the transition from the longest day of light, as we end the month of June.
You are invited to be guided through a journey of gentle yin yoga for the body and an hour of the sacred yoga of sound. Soundscapes using multiple planetary gongs, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Crystal bowls and other sinuous sounds will give the body an opportunity to absorb the residue of the physical practice and continue the process of deep release and transformation.

The solstice encourages us to celebrate the light of summer to bring forth everything that is hidden to blossom. This time of the year allows us to find the energy and freshness in ourselves, to break through dullness and creative inactivity, as we celebrate all the abundant evidence of life’s continuation with joy and wonderment. This workshop will activate the element of fire within the heart, and recognition of the power of the sun internally and externally. Solstice literally means, Sun Standing Still.

This workshop is suitable for anyone; please come wearing comfortable clothing and bring eye shades, so that you can deeply relax into the practice.

Charlie is an experienced yin yoga teacher, sound therapist and music therapist. With an MA in music psychotherapy and extensive training in yin yoga & restorative yoga under the continued guidance of her mentor Norman Blair, in addition to receiving training from Sarah Powers, Bernie Clarke, and Judith Lasater. Studying tantric practices from Sianna Sherman, Shree Devi Bringi, YogaRupa & Christopher Hareesh Wallis.

Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Workshop with Lon Gibbons

Saturday 28th of May

16:00-18:00

£25 for Members and £35 for non Members

Stress is a normal and essential part of life. Resilience is a measure of how we handle stress. Restorative yoga practices like yin yoga and yoga nidra are excellent stress management skills, vital for building and maintaining physical, mental and emotional resilience. The nervous system is designed to react and then recover. It is how well we can switch between these two states that is the key.  These slower and more relaxing techniques have a calming effect directly on the nervous system and allow a more easeful switching on of the parasympathetic response. Practised regularly, they build resilience by widening the ‘window of tolerance’ between reacting to and recovering from a stressful or traumatic incident.

Yin yoga is slow, with poses being held for 2-5 minutes, giving time for the body and mind to relax. Some props may be used to ensure comfort rather than effort. Yoga Nidra is a very deep relaxation practice, usually practised lying down, which takes you to the liminal place between being awake and being asleep, a healing space.

Lon has been teaching these practices for over 20 years.  Whether you may be new to these techniques or already familiar with them, do not miss two hours of nourishing and relaxing yoga. Learn ways to continue building resilience through your own practice at home and gain life-long skills of self regulation. Please come wearing warm layers and bring eye shades, so you can allow comfort to deepen your experience.

During this 2 hour session, we will immerse ourselves in deeply calming guided meditations, as well as discussing practical steps to make meditation a daily habit. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions
About Catherine: a twenty-year journey with yogic meditative practices began while Catherine was Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire Health & Beauty and more recently, a contributor to Psychologies, Porter and Conde Nast Traveller. The profound benefits she experienced led her to take time out to learn and absorb more on her travels to India, Bali, and Thailand. She loves sharing techniques she has learned with everyone - beginners or more experienced yogis, of all ages and all walks of life.
